Our log-grown gourmet mushrooms are like nothing you’ve ever tasted before.
We inoculated our first twenty logs for our family back in 2018. Once we harvested our first flush of big, beautiful shiitake mushrooms, we were hooked. I knew we needed to bring this level of gourmet mushrooms to Melinda’s Market as soon as possible.
So in the spring of 2021 our family sustainably harvested sweet gum, tulip poplar, red oak and white oak from our 20 acre homestead and inoculated 500 logs with mushroom spawn. We got our first harvest of these mushrooms in July 2022.
Everyone went absolutely wild about them, and we couldn’t keep up with demand. So Winter 2022 we inoculated around 600 more logs for our mushroom yard and sold around 150 logs to folks in our community. We did our last round in Fall 2023 with another successful sale.
If you’ve never had log-grown mushrooms, you must try them! We have heard over and over again from folks that our mushrooms are THE BEST they’ve ever eaten. And I can’t argue with them.
The depth of flavor from mushrooms grown on logs, out in the fresh air, soaking up the sunshine and watered by rain, just can’t be compared to the grocery store mushrooms.
